Who it fits
Good fit for
This washer suits renters, students, or anyone in a space with limited laundry hookups. Its 20 lbs capacity handles small to medium loads efficiently. The full automatic operation means you do not need to manually transfer clothes between wash and spin cycles. The 24-hour delay start is ideal for those with busy schedules or off-peak electricity rates. If you need a standalone unit that fits in an apartment, this model provides the necessary specs for everyday laundry tasks.
Who should skip it
You should look elsewhere if you need a high-capacity machine for large families or bulky items like comforters. The 20 lbs limit may feel restrictive for heavy users. If you prefer a top-loading design with a lid, note that this is a top-load unit but you should verify the specific lid mechanism in the manual. Also, if you require a built-in display with digital readouts beyond the control panel, this model relies on its multifunctional interface. Check the height variations if your space is strictly under 30.9 inches.
Verdict: The WATTSMART 20 lbs Portable Washer is a practical choice for small households needing a compact, automatic laundry solution. Its customizable cycles and hygienic tub design make it a solid spec-based option for apartment living.
Key specs explained for you
Capacity: 20 lbs
This rating indicates the maximum dry weight of laundry the drum can hold in one cycle. A 20 lbs capacity allows you to wash larger loads, such as bedding or bulk towels, without overstuffing the machine. You should compare this figure against your typical weekly laundry volume. If you live alone, a smaller unit may suffice, but for families or shared apartments, this higher capacity reduces the number of cycles needed per week.
Tub Material: Ag+ nano-silver ion-coated
The inner drum features a coating that releases silver ions to inhibit bacterial growth. This design helps maintain hygiene between washes, which is particularly useful for sanitizing baby clothes or delicate items. You benefit from a cleaner environment inside the tub, reducing odors and potential mold. When shopping, look for this feature if you prioritize sanitation, as standard plastic tubs do not offer this same level of self-cleaning protection.
Wash Programs: 10
The control panel offers ten distinct cycles, ranging from gentle settings for delicates to intensive options for heavy soil. This variety allows you to tailor the wash action to specific fabric types, protecting clothing integrity. You avoid using a single harsh cycle for all items, which can cause wear. Compare this number to basic models that offer only three or four options to see the added flexibility for different laundry needs.
Water Levels: 6
You can manually select from six different water fill heights to match the volume of your load. This precision ensures you do not waste water on small loads while still providing enough depth for larger items. Proper water levels improve cleaning efficiency by ensuring clothes are adequately submerged. When comparing portable washers, check if this feature is available, as fixed water levels can lead to inefficiency or poor rinsing results.
Design And Build Details
The listing describes the WATTSMART unit as a compact appliance with a grey and white finish. Its physical dimensions are 22.1 inches wide, 21.1 inches long, and 33.1 inches high. The machine weighs 55.1 pounds. These measurements allow it to fit into tight spaces like apartment corners or dorm rooms. The height may require you to lift loads into the drum, which is typical for top-loading designs. The weight provides stability during the spin cycle, reducing vibration on flat surfaces.
The drum interior features an Ag+ nano-silver ion coating. According to the listing, this material helps sanitize the inner wall and is safe for baby clothes. This coating is a design choice aimed at hygiene rather than just cleaning power. You do not need to add separate sanitizers for basic maintenance. The exterior shell appears to be durable plastic, consistent with portable units that move frequently.
Control layout is straightforward. You use a full automatic panel to select from 10 wash programs and 6 water levels. There is no remote or app mentioned in the specs. You interact directly with the machine to set delays or start cycles. This simple interface means you can operate it without learning complex software. The design prioritizes ease of use over smart features. You get direct control over wash intensity and duration through physical or digital buttons on the unit itself.
Setup And Daily Use Guide
This unit arrives as a fully automatic appliance, which simplifies the initial setup process. You do not need to manage manual transfers or complex installations. The machine connects to a standard water supply and drains through its designated hose. Its dimensions of 22.1 inches wide and 33.1 inches high allow it to fit under counters or in tight corners, while the 55.1-pound weight keeps it stable during operation.
Daily use is controlled via an intuitive multi-function panel. You select from ten distinct wash programs, ranging from gentle cycles for delicate fabrics to intensive settings for heavier soils. The interface also offers six water level options, allowing you to adjust the fill volume based on your load size. This ensures you use the necessary amount of water for each cycle.
A key feature for routine management is the 24-hour programmable delay start. You can load your clothes, choose a cycle, and set a start time up to one day in advance. This lets you schedule washes for off-peak hours or have fresh laundry ready upon your return. The machine also includes a self-cleaning program for the inner tub. The tub itself is coated with Ag+ nano-silver ions, which help maintain hygiene without extra effort from you. The exclusive waterfall cleaning mode uses a high-speed centrifugal pump to create a water curtain, enhancing the wash action. With a maximum spin speed of 1350 RPM, the unit removes excess water efficiently, reducing drying time. This combination of automated controls and targeted cleaning modes makes daily laundry tasks straightforward and consistent.
Before You Buy This Washer
Owning this unit requires a few practical preparations. First, verify your water pressure is sufficient for the full automatic operation. The machine connects to a standard faucet, so you will need the appropriate adapter hoses, which are often not included. Keep a flat, level surface ready, as the 55.1 pound weight shifts significantly during the 1350 RPM spin cycle. Uneven floors can cause excessive vibration or movement. You should also ensure you have adequate drainage space nearby for the exhaust hose. Regularly run the self-cleaning program to maintain the Ag+ nano-silver ion-coated tub. This upkeep helps prevent odor and keeps the sanitized inner wall effective for baby-safe laundry. When comparing this to other options in our 1 Portable Washers & Dryers guide, note that its 20 lbs capacity is on the higher end for portable units. If you need to wash bulky items like comforters, this model suits you better than smaller 15.7 lbs alternatives. However, if space is extremely tight, consider the shorter 30.9 inch height variation. Always measure your installation area carefully before purchasing.
Check before you buy

- Ensure the floor is level and can support 55.1 lbs.
